Beau Bo D’Or on reports that Mrs Recorder Booth QC accused Gordon Brown of lying.
Actually, I’m sure people are misunderstanding her reported response to Gordon Brown saying ‘it had been a privilege’ to work for her husband. What she meant, of course, was that it wasn’t a privilege for him at all; it was both his right under the Granita agreement he’d struck with her husband and his prerogative since he was unsackable.
I know New Labour get rights, prerogatives and privileges badly mixed up – they then think their privileges of office are theirs by rights while our rights as citizens are, in fact, gifts we’re privileged to receive from them, but a QC wouldn’t make such an elementary mistake and it’s understandable that she was annoyed hearing Gordon so do.
