Definitely the last time I agree to cover for a colleague at this time of year — when crises arise, they seem all to need sorting before what I refuse to be politically correct and call ‘the Holidays’ — call Quarter Day by its proper name, say I.
What with that and Christmas shopping… grr. Should be back to normal in the next day or so, though. One quick recommendation, though, for folks buying clothes for small children — I’ve found a great shop called Twisted Twee, which does online orders. Might not be to everyone’s taste, but I do rather approve of what they modestly describe as ‘the best idea in the world’, a low-tech, and considerably more sane and child-friendly, answer to at least one of the fears of parents than the latest step towards total surveillance as described by ARCH RIGHTS and The Register. One of the many horrifying aspects of the hi-tech approach is that the poor kids will doubtless grow up thinking this sort of surveillance is normal.
