Not Saussure

I’ve just discovered I’ve won, by a whisker, the Third Annual Satin Pajama Award for best new weblog. Not sure what to say, other than many thanks to everyone who voted for me, congratulations to the other winners and commiserations to everyone else.

Johnny Billericay won best UK weblog, Slugger O’ Toole best political weblog (many thanks to everyone who voted for me in that, too), Mick Fealty, founder of Slugger O’ Toole, won the lifetime achievement award, and Petite Anglaise won the best European weblog category.

Check out the other winners, and also the other finalists. I’ve discovered some great new blogs there (by which I also mean, of course, well-established ones I didn’t know about)

Thanks again, all.

  1. No harm in self-congratulation. Seldom was an award more deserved.

  3. Well done on the award. Just a small point, I notice that the button in the side bar refers to nominee. Will this now be updated to show winner?

    Why satin pajamas? Any idea?

I am no expert on this kind of thing, but surely it is more of a honour, than, say, a Tory blogger award with only three nominations to choose from?

  4. Thanks, all. I imagine they’ll produce a different button, JHL, but I don’t know, any more than I know why it’s called ‘Satin Pajamas’. If anyone does know, I’d be fascinated to learn — didn’t Noel Coward used to wear them to write in? I dunno.

  5. Good work, sir – I was rooting for you all the way, but wasn’t allowed to let on. You’ve done a remarkable job with this place in the time it’s been around and no mistake. I very much hope you keep up the good work.

(I’ve got no idea why Satin Pajamas either, by the way – nor why it’s a variant spelling…)

  6. I did think about writing in satin pajamas, and Noel Coward. Wasn’t he brilliant as Mr Bridger in the Italian Job?

  7. Well done NS!

  8. There’s a hoary, long running joke about bloggers posting in their pajamas. I allways use US spellings and iioms when writing, but I also had some idea that it would be most sutable for a pan-european event to use non-british spelling. That’s a little random, but with the strong UK tilt this year, it it makes some sense.

  9. The buttons is my co-blogger Tobias department, and he’s still on vacation, as far as I know.

  11. Well done sir. You seem, if I may make so bold, to be going from strength to strength at the moment.

  12. Jailhouse Lawyer: Don’t knock Tory blog awards with only three nominees – even then some of us couldn’t win one of those either…

  13. A well-deserved award. Congrats.

  14. Congratulations, NS. The judges were obviously excellent because they agreed with me :o)

  15. Congratulations from me also.

Such a nicer contest than the last one I was involved with.

  16. Well done – much deserved.

I assume a pair of satin pajamas will arrive in the post forthwith.

Wish I’d won – these old horse-hair things don’t half make my arse itch.
