Blogpower, Blogrolls and feeds

Filed under: Blogroll — notsaussure @ 10:34 pm

I’m sorry I haven’t mentioned this before, but the excellent Tom Paine, proprietor of The Last Ditch, has made all the Blogpower blogs available as feeds on a PageFlakes page, so if you want to see what the various Blogpoweristi are up to without visiting everyone in turn, there’s a way to do it.

Inspired by his example, I’ve tried to put my blogroll onto Bloglines in a similar manner. I find that it’s a lot easier to skim them in a reader like that than it is to visit individual links, so I’m rather hoping that people who’ve vaguely wondered what such-and-such a blog on my blogroll is about, but have never bothered to go there — I rarely explore people’s blogrolls in any great detail, I must admit — might take a quick look at unfamiliar titles via Mr Paine’s and my online feed readers and perhaps find a couple of unfamilar blogs they find interesting.

  1. Skimming the posts cuts down on the visits to the blogs, which was part of the blogpower theme (I thought) :)

I am featuring a ‘blog of the week’ on my site that loads everytime my page loads, so it (should) get a hit everytime I do :)

Btw, your blog is on tap for next week (Tuesday), if you could watch your counter to see if it does indeed go up more than usual (if you can)

  2. Indeed, but people are frequently busy and, to my mind, if they’re not blogpower members, are probably more likely to visit sites if they’ve had a preliminary look at them on Tom Paine’s pageflakes page than are they to click on a title.

I’m not sure, actually, that skimming posts does cut down on visits — my WordPress stats give me a breakdown of how many visits I’ve had direct and how many I’ve had via feed readers (and which readers people are using).

Many thanks for featuring my blog next week — I’ll watch the counter and let you know what happens.

  3. One thing that puzzles me is how exactly one joins blog power – can’t seem to work it out!

  4. Drop an email to James Higham or one of the other admins, Baht At, telling them you want to join up.

  5. hey not, any changes (noticable) in your stats this week?

Trying to figure out if the ‘blog feature’ I’m doing is actually worth anything.

  6. Sorry, Lord Nazh, I hadn’t forgotten — I was waiting for my weekly stats before writing something about it.

The short answer is, yes, it’s generated a great many hits — about 130-odd page views a day referred by your site, according to WordPress’ daily stats. Many thanks indeed; I’m very grateful.

  7. Ok, so at least I know it works somewhat :)

Maybe you’ll get some new readers from those hits.
