Time to throw the rascals out!

The US Democrats’ success in the congressional elections was no doubt assisted by this advert, featuring what must be one of the catchiest political theme songs ever. Certainly beats ‘Things can only get better’ into a cocked hat.

Salon says,

This great ad, which uses the Squirrel Nut Zippers’ “Have You Had Enough?” and a charming Rickie Lee Jones vocal, has been recut and reused in about 18 Democratic races across the country. […] Its catchy retro stylings made voting against the GOP House seem not only fun but incredibly cool.

There might be some ideological problems, but it strikes me that it would make a great campaign theme for Call Me Dave and his new, cool user-friendly Conservatives. The guy being hauled off to gaol would be incredibly appropriate.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph’s Janet Daley deserves some sort of prize for ungraciousness in defeat: ‘ The Democratic victory was not as sweeping as it might have been’, indeed! You can tell she’s a foreigner.

Having belated realised that looking to Janet Daley for a reasonable view on anything is a bit of a waste of time, I turned to Jon Swift for the reasonable American conservative’s view on their election results. I was not disappointed. He takes much the same line as does Ms Daley, though far more entertainingly; indeed, he finds in the election results support for a thesis discussed elsewhere by Chris Dillow.

‘This is handily the catchiest political song I’ve ever heard, and certainly the most danceable’.
