UKIP

It’s been suggested that ever since Simon Heffer started writing in favour of UKIP, they’ve had no end of problems. Fisking Central have noticed the Uncyclopedia entry for Simon Heffer, which, as Fisking Central say, is a classic and goes a long way to explaining matters. It begins

Simon Heffer is a neo-liberal author and gay rights activist. He owns shares in one quarter of Liverpool along with his business partner and lover, Alan Shearer. Heffer is also one of the Last Great Leather Fetishists.

Heffer was born to two cows (heffers) in Lancaster in 1792. His family quickly hit upon hard times, and so decided to sell Heffer into slavery. It is here he is believed to have met and forged a friendship with Samuel L Jackson. Heffer attributes his deep understanding of minority groups in British society to this time he spent in slavery. Heffer escaped his captors after several years but quickly became confused and convinced himself he was a badger.

and continues at some length, in similar vein. I am very tempted to cross-post it to Conservapedia, but I fear they’d ban me because it’s a non-USA topic.

On a more serious note, I see that Devil’s Kitchen, in his human rather his diabolical manifestation (for some reason this makes me think of Gabriel Byrne’s character in End of Days — can’t imagine why), is standing for election to UKIP’s National Executive Committee. I’m honoured — I think — that he’s chose a quote from me as one of the many endorsements in his manifesto.

For what it’s worth, I certainly meant what I said there — I, for one, started to take UKIP more seriously when DK announced he’d joined them, since, even though I frequently disagree with what he has to say — though I’m surprised at how often I find myself agreeing with him — he’s someone whose views are worth serious thought.

So, if there are any UKIP members reading this, and my endorsement isn’t a poisoned chalice, I heartily recommend Chris Mounsey for your consideration. Underneath all that swearing and ranting, he’s clearly a very bright and thoughtful chap.

  1. I barely agree with about 20% of what our pal at DK has to say, but he’s funny, literate and consistent in his posting.

I wish terrible bad luck to his party, but long may he keep blogging.

  2. Continuing terrible bad luck, I think you mean!

I agree with you; I disagree with him more often than not, but he’s always enjoyable to read, not least because I frequently have to think about why I disagree.

I hope he wins his election — he’ll certainly shake their ideas up a bit.
